What is a solid state drive?
A solid state drive is a hard drive that uses flash memory to store data. Unlike regular, mechanical hard drives, solid state drives (or SSD’s) have no moving parts, making them a more reliable — and much faster — way to store data.
Why upgrade to a solid state drive?
Replacing your hard drive with a solid state drive can dramatically increase the speed of your computer or laptop. Even older machines will see a significant boost from an upgrade to a solid state drive, granting them new life and saving you some money in the process. And we can easily transfer your data as part of the installation.
Benefits of a solid state drive:
- Solid state drives are typically up to 25 to 100 times faster than a regular mechanical hard drive. While it depends on your machines age and specs, you’ll see a noticeable, if not remarkable, difference after upgrading.
- Solid state drives are more energy efficient since the have no moving parts drawing energy. This keeps systems cooler and helps prevent overheating, which is especially helpful for laptops.
- Remember driving over a bump while listening to a CD in your car? Remember how the song would skip and stutter and your CD might even be damaged in the process? Well, moving your laptop while the hard drive is spinning is a lot like that. Solid state drives, on the other hand, can be moved around without fear of stuttering or damage to data. In fact, they’re durable enough to survive a drop, though we don’t recommend testing it out.
